COLOMBIAN GOLD® CBD supports the Amazon Conservation Association. South America’s Amazon contains nearly a third of all the tropical rainforests left on Earth. Despite covering only around 1% of the planet’s surface, the Amazon rainforest is home to 10% of all the wildlife species we know about – and probably a lot that we don’t know yet.

Our research shows that, on average, a ‘new’ species of animal or plant is being discovered in the Amazon every 3 days. However, tragically, because huge parts of the rainforest are being destroyed so fast, we may never know all the riches it holds.

The Amazon is of vital importance because people around the world, as well as locally, depend on the rainforest. Not just for food, water, wood and medicines, but to help stabilise the climate—around 76 billion tonnes of carbon is stored in the Amazon rainforest., The trees in the Amazon also release 20 billion tonnes of water into the atmosphere per day, playing a critical role in global and regional carbon and water cycles.

In the 1980s, burning rainforests in Brazil drew worldwide attention to the plight of the Amazon Basin: Without a plan for development and conservation, would this vast forested “lungs of the world” disappear? And would it take with it all benefits to global air and water, human and animal diversity, scientific and medical advances?

Many international organizations rushed to develop plans for conservation and development of the lower Amazon. In the late 1990s, however, a small group of conservationists looked higher, to the source of the Amazon. The Amazon Conservation Co-Founders Adrian Forsyth and Enrique Ortiz developed the founding program that provided support for Brazil nut harvesters in Peru as an incentive for protecting the forest, the first of many locally driven, pragmatic conservation solutions that are the hallmark of the organization.

Two decades in, the Amazon Conservation Association has protected over 8.15 million acres of rainforest; provided cutting-edge tools to government and forest users to protect their lands; empowered hundreds of indigenous communities to develop forest-friendly livelihoods; and hosted thousands of scientists pioneering innovative research at three conservation hubs. The Amazon Conservation Association has made a difference.

The threats to a healthy Amazon are multiplying. Now is the time to intensify our efforts to stop deforestation, partner with Amazonian people to find a more sustainable path to their own vision of development, build greater climate resilience, and support good governance to conserve the ecosystems and biodiversity on which we all depend. The Amazon is under siege like never before. Deforestation and fire are once again on the increase, and protected areas and indigenous lands face increasing threats. It needs our help more than ever. We cannot tackle the climate crisis without the Amazon’s vital life-sustaining role.

COLOMBIAN GOLD CBD BRAND has partnered with the Amazon Conservation Association to preserve the Amazon and save the world’s rainforests. 100% of project donations directly fund conservation action. This is thanks to the board members and donors who fund the organization’s operating expenses. For their size and achievements, Amazon Conservation Association is one of the most efficient international conservation NGOs in the world!

Each project donation protects real acres and saves endangered species. They are focused on tangible results. Contributions do not support lobbying, political activities, or special interests. Amazon Conservation Association holds Charity Navigator’s highest 4-Star rating for its commitment to transparency, accountability and efficiency, exceeding the standards in their field.
